It’s not very often the small town of Gallatin, Tennessee, which is located in Sumner County, sees a huge opportunity such as the one Beretta is offering. The Italy-based multinational firearms manufacturer will invest $45M into a new facility located in Gallatin expected to be completed by 2018 and bringing nearly 300 new jobs to the area.
Beretta is the oldest, family-owned company in the world established in 1526 and producing firearms for military, competition, and sporting use. Mayor Jo Ann Graves views the move as a major coup for Gallatin and validation of the City’s aggressive strategy to earmark land and infrastructure for an industrial center.
“This move is proof that communities must invest in themselves before prospective employers will invest in them,” said Mayor Graves. “We had land available with a new road and other infrastructure in place. Beretta liked what they saw in Gallatin.”
“We are convinced we could find no better place,” said Franco Beretta, one of the owners of the company. Other representatives of Beretta said that after visiting 80 different sites throughout the United States, Gallatin was a “unanimous choice” for a partnership that should last for “centuries to come.”
Many factors contributed to closing the deal such as a strong skilled labor pool in the area, state workforce training assistance, nearby research and development resources, and connections with vendors who are prepared to build and furnish high-tech manufacturing facilities.
Discussion began in April 2013 when state economic and community development (ECD) officials learned that the Nashville area was one of several locations being considered by Beretta executives. ECD officials were notified that the Gallatin site was a finalist in November, and, by early December, serious negotiations began.
Mayor Jo Ann Graves and other city officials broke ground on the National Health Care (NHC) facility in Gallatin near Kennesaw off Nashville Pike. NHC is building a skilled nursing and assisted living facility that will also add 190 new jobs when complete – a $37M investment in the City of Gallatin, Tennessee.
