Why You Should NOT Use Expensive or Cheap Resume Services

Why You Should NOT Use Expensive or Cheap Resume Services

First, let’s define “cheap” in regards to a resume service.  There are literally thousands of companies, writers, and online websites that are providers of resume preparation services across the nation and globe.  This makes it very hard to choose which one is the best fit for you and your particular needs.  However, there is one way to significantly narrow down this search and help you make the right decision with one simple formula.  PRICE!!!

Lower priced services in comparison to the norm charge anywhere from $25 to $80 for a resume to be written.  I will just flat out tell you that no expert resume writer can work for this small of a fee.  It can take several hours to figure out the best approach for a given situation, formulate the most advantageous strategies, and then to put together the resume so eloquently that it will land you interviews. If you simply divide the amount of hours it can take by the cost of the resume service itself, you will find that you are blindly putting your trust into a minimum wage worker who couldn’t possibly hold the necessary credentials to create such an important document.  Enough said!

This is the most effective way to eliminate roughly 90% of the organizations or individuals out there that claim to offer these types of professional level services.  Once you have crossed all of the cheap resume services off your list, you can move on to other areas of elimination which I will explain below.

There has been a perception for many years among consumers that you “get what you pay for” when purchasing anything.  Sometimes this is true, but there is a huge difference between buying something cheap and something expensive while expecting the same idea to apply to both.  What I mean by this is…sometimes you get something more for less…and sometimes you get something less for more.

So let me elaborate.  We have already determined that it’s easy to exclude cheap offerings because there is just no way possible they can perform the level of service you need to get results. Many of the more expensive resume services can cost anywhere from $400 to $1500 just to prepare one document for you, and the prices can vary depending on package options, page numbers, and experience level.  Usually what you will find is that these companies or individuals that charge such high amounts are literally just charging what they want in hopes to make gargantuan profits by taking advantage of a desperate job seeker.

Overly high-cost services should be avoided for one simple fact.  It is just not worth the extra money to get the same exact results you would get with a mid-priced service that holds the exact same credentials and experience.  I will be totally honest with you here.  There is only so much you can do to a resume before it starts to become so over-the-top that it’s ridiculous.  Throughout my career as a resume writer and business owner, I have seen some hilarious resumes with insane amounts of exaggerated information that it’s really not even funny.  All this amounts to is out of the ordinary “fluff” that employers can see right through and don’t even care to look at. You get nothing more with an over-priced service than you would with an affordable company/writer who has the same expertise and ethical commitments as the one which costs twice as much.

Now that we have determined that cheap or expensive resume services are definitely not the way to go, it is safe to assume that your search for the perfect fit can be found within a mediocre price range of $100 – $300 depending on the options and pledges the service has to offer.  Even within this threshold, it can be a bit confusing as to which one will be the better choice, but at least you know that you will be getting your money’s worth without over spending.

This is the right blog for anyone who wants to find out about this topic. You realize so much that it’s almost hard to argue with you (not that I actually would want to…HaHa). You definitely put a new spin on a topic that’s been written about for years. Great stuff, just great! I also downloaded your IT resume template and really liked how you provided this helpful information free for job seekers such as myself. I have been in the IT field for half of my life and never needed a resume until now. Keep up the good work!
